Dorothy M. Perez, 81, a lifelong area resident, died on October 28, 2017 at home.

Born in Poughkeepsie on May 13, 1936, Dorothy was the daughter of Edward and Vera (Wood) Maroney. Dorothy was the Valedictorian of her 1954 graduating class of Arlington High School. She went on to receive of Bachelors of Science Degree in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University. She received her Master’s Degree in Ceramic Engineering from Penn State where she met the love of her life, Jerome J. Perez. On August 27, 1960 at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie, Dorothy married Jerome, who survives at home. She was employed by IBM, and then spent 15 years raising her family. She then went back and got her Associates Degree in Programming from Dutchess Community College. Until her retirement in 1997, she worked as a Program Manager for Dutchess County ISS for 25 years.

Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Denis Church, enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, and golf, and devoted much of her time to charities including the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Denis Church. She loved family gatherings, her yearly vacations at Ocean City, MD, special winter vacations including trips to Cancun, Punta Cana and the Canary Islands, and especially taking her grandchildren to Disney World.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by her sons, Mark and his wife Andrea of Woodstock and Jerry and his wife Rita of Prescott, AZ; her son-in-law, Stuart Shapiro of West Grove, PA; her grandchildren, Sarah A. Perez of Washington, NC, Mark J. Perez and his wife Jacklynn of Kingston, Clifford J. Perez of Washington, D.C., Jakob T. Perez of Woodstock, Allison S. Perez of Philadelphia, PA, and Kevin B. Perez of West Grove, PA; her brother-in-law, Jack Krumwiede; and 8 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Ann Shapiro in 2005; and her twin sister, Doris Krumwiede.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-8pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 9:45am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery.
