Obituary for
Peter Bruce Knapp
FISHKILL – Peter B. Knapp, a lifelong local area resident, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Fishkill. He was 67.
Son of the late Douglas G. and Jane (Garrison) Knapp, he was born in Cold Spring on August 22, 1949. Peter attended local schools and always remained an active member of the Nelsonville and Cold Spring communities. He was a longtime member of the Nelsonville Fire Department and during the 1970s he served as a Police Officer for the Village of Nelsonville.
On July 8, 1973, he married Mary Jo Budney at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring. In 1987, they opened Pete’s Hometown Grocery in Nelsonville, which they owned and operated together for many years until 2014. For the last few years, Pete had been working as a greeter at Sam’s Club in Fishkill.
He is survived by his daughter, Aileen Croft & her husband Roger of Clarksvill, TN; his brother, Thomas Knapp & his wife Deirdre of Cold Spring; also many nieces, nephews, as well as many other loving relatives & friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife on September 27, 2014. Peter was also predeceased by his brother, Douglas R. Knapp, and his niece, Susan Knapp.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at Cold Spring Cemetery.
