Eileen Veronica "Vera" Carroll
COLD SPRING - Eileen Veronica “Vera” Carroll, 89, a resident of Cold Spring since 2008, died on June 6, 2017 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. She had previously lived in Flushing since 1969.
Born on November 1, 1927 in Carrig-on-Bannow, Wexford, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Walsh) Doyle. Vera worked as a bookkeeper and was a homemaker for many years.
She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring. Vera enjoyed cooking, playing cards, listening to Irish music, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.
On February 19, 1949 in Liverpool, England, Vera married Dominick Carroll who predeceased her in 2014 after 65 years of marriage. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Eileen and Nevio Blazina of Red Hook, Regina and Simon Ecclefield of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, Seamus and Marie Carroll of Cold Spring, Maureen and Tom Senk of Mineola, Deirdre and Dennis Noonan of Floral Park, and Patricia and Tim Sullivan of Mohegan Lake; her grandchildren, Nevin (Katie) Blazina, Brian and Carina Ecclefield, Claire and Grace Carroll, Katie and Emma Senk, Liam, Meaghan, and Aidan Noonan, and Connor, Matthew, and Rowena Sullivan; her great-granddaughter, Annalyse Blazina; and her sisters, Ena Doherty and Pat Wright. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Maisie, Dollie, Nancy, Halleen, Ned, and Willie.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 11:30 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
