Obituary for Sean L. Grogan

Sean L. Grogan
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Sean L. Grogan, 18, a lifelong area resident, died on April 13, 2017.

Born in Mount Kisco on May 12, 1998, he was the beloved son of Thomas and Denise (Nethercott) Grogan. Sean graduated from St. Denis - St. Columba School in 2012 and Roy C. Ketcham High School in 2016. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and was currently studying Political Science at the University of Albany.

Sean loved the New York Giants and watched ESPN religiously. He knew every player in the NFL and could reference any major sports moment. He was a Captain of the Wappingers Warriors Lacrosse team in high school and a standout defensive player.

Sean had a keen interest in art and even volunteered at DIA of Beacon. He was an avid reader and listened to music of all kinds. Sean’s taste in books and music was as open and as all-encompassing as his heart.

Sean also had many, many loving friends and family. His family jokingly referred to him as “the mayor” as Sean knew someone or would get to know someone anywhere he went. His warm smile, kind soul, and sharp sense of humor made him memorable to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sean had deep roots within his community as well. He worked at the East Fishkill Community Library, the Village of Fishkill Water Department, and the New York State Bridge Authority. He volunteered as an altar server at St. Columba Church and as a helper at the Summer Joy Program at St. Denis / St. Columba School for years. He was also selected to attend Boys State through the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Sean is survived by his loving sisters, Kimberly Grogan and fiancé John Maricevic of Hopewell Junction, Kelly Grogan of Manhattan, Erin Grogan of Mount Kisco and Tara Grogan of Wappingers Falls; his grandmother, Dorothy Nethercott of Danbury, CT; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial in St. Denis Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Denis – St. Columba School for the Sean Grogan Scholarship Fund, PO Box 368, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. Please visit Sean’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
