Kenneth J. Detlor
Kenneth John Detlor, 87, of Hopewell Junction and formerly of Armonk, died peacefully on February 15, 2017 at Waterview Hills in Purdys, NY.
Born in Montreal on February 23, 1929, he was the son of the late William Kenneth and Eva Thelma (Walker) Detlor.
Ken graduated from McGill University, and after becoming a Chartered Accountant, followed his apprenticeship at Big 8 accounting firm Clarkson Gordon with jobs at Avon and Hertz International in Montreal, then at Hertz Penske in New York and MCI in Purchase.
Ken loved his family and his pets and was a lifelong sports fan. He grew up playing hockey, where he faced off against future NHL players and won the Montreal Junior League championship with Notre Dame de Grace, as well as fastball and squash, and was still playing competitive soccer on a travel team with his sons at age 65.
Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years, Amy (Stefani), and by their five children and spouses, Leslie and Dave Buranek of Salt Lake City UT, Mark Detlor of Lutz FL, Gordon and Dorie Detlor of Brookfield CT, Greg and Gladys Detlor of New Fairfield CT, and Lisa and Herb Jarvis of Hopewell Junction NY; his grandchildren Stephanie and Kristopher Buranek, Mark and Luke Detlor, Matthew and Marissa Detlor, Francesca Bradley and Michael Detlor, and Emily, Ian, and Alexander Jarvis; his great-grandson Luke Buranek; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 4, from 1-3pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction NY, followed by a memorial service at 3pm.
All guests are invited to attend a reception following the service at Lisa and Herb's home.
