Obituary for Joseph J. Myers

Joseph J. Myers
Poughkeepsie, NY- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the June 12, 2016 passing of our beloved father, Joseph J. Myers.

Joseph Myers, 73, a lifelong resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was born March 1, 1943 and was predeceased by his father and mother, James and Zelma “Ruth” (Haight) Myers.

After 25 years of service, Joe retired from DeLaval in Poughkeepsie, and later went on to work at the Town of Poughkeepsie Wastewater Department where he retired with loving support after 24.5 years. He had also served as the CSEA Union President. He was a member of the Poughkeepsie Soccer Club, and was a member and EMT with the Croft Corners Fire Department.

Joe was an adored father and father-in-law who lived for his children and grandchildren. He was a very kind and generous man who always looked to help others and would extend his support to anyone in need. Over the years, Joe truly enjoyed watching the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and extended family, often from the sideline of a soccer field. He had a passion for antique cars.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Cheryl Myers of Poughkeepsie; daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Brian Tierney of LaGrange; and grandchildren, Emily Tierney, Teagan Tierney, Braedon Tierney, and Riley Myers. He is also survived by his brother and wife, James and Althea (Lee) Myers of Citrus Springs FL; his sister, Joan Hoerle of New Port Ritchie, FL; his sister-in-law, Jeanette Myers of Wellington, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald Myers.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

Joe received exemplary care and support from the doctors and nurses at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering to help the fight against cancer in loving memory of Joseph J. Myers. Please visit Joseph’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
