James Gleason Babcock
FISHKILL - James Gleason Babcock, 88, an area resident for 6 years, died on May 1, 2016 at the Wingate at Dutchess. He formerly lived in Carmel.
Born in Montpelier, VT on January 3, 1928, he was the son of the late Homer C. and Hannah (Adams) Babcock. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII. James had been employed as an auto mechanic by Rodier – Rooney Motors in White Plains until his retirement.
James was a parishioner at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus #6318. An avid bowler, he was part of the K of C bowling team and also enjoyed fixing cars.
James is survived by his wife, Rosemary Price Babcock at home; his children and their spouses, Elizabeth Ann and Christopher DiBetta of Torrington, CT, Susan and Dennis Bowles of New Paltz, and James and Amy Babcock, Jr. of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Ryan, Curtis, Abigail, and Myles; and his sister, Barbara Schneider. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Homer and Robert Babcock.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park with military honors.
