Obituary for
Joseph L. Hayes
FISHKILL - Joseph L. Hayes, 80, an area resident since 1966 and formerly of Yonkers, died on November 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Yonkers on September 7, 1938, he was the son of Joseph P. and Helen (Beamish) Hayes. Joseph proudly served our country in the US Navy, and was employed with Con Edison in Buchanan until his retirement.
Joe was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church and St. Columba Church. He coached Fishkill Pop Warner Football for the Steelers, and Fishkill Little League. For many years, he played in the Over 60 Softball League. Joe loved animals - feeding the birds and giving treats to the neighborhood dogs.
On September 14, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers, Joe married Helen (Howard) who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Dr. Joseph L. and Wei Wei Hayes, Theresa and John Flint, Tracey and Steve Kopchik, James and Roberta Hayes, Helen and Edward Gordon, John Hayes, and Thomas and Diane Hayes; his grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Sara Hayes, Kira Hayes, Amanda Hayes, Angela and Josh Rigo, Jennifer and Brandon Jeffer, Katie Kopchik, Colleen Kopchik, Robert and Lauren Hayes, Matthew Hayes, Thomas Hayes, Edward Gordon, Jessica and Brandon Startup, Ryan Hayes, Shannon Hayes, Connor Hayes, Brendon Hayes, and Griffin Hayes; his sister, Marcella Lee; 8 great-grandchildren (and one more on the way); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Rampa.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 11am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
