Obituary for Aaron H Yerks

BEACON – Aaron H. Yerks, 65, a lifelong resident of Beacon, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Aaron was born on December 14, 1952 in Beacon to Aaron and Bessie (Tomlins) Yerks.

He attended Beacon City Schools and went on to work at Chemprene, Inc. for the last 29 years. In April of 1981, he joined Lewis Tompkins Hose Fire Dept. as a volunteer firefighter. He held the position of 2nd Lieutenant in 1982 and received numerous awards and recognition throughout his time with the fire department. He was an active 25-year lifetime member. He had many interests but mostly enjoyed time spent watching old horror movies, war movies and listening to music. He also had a love and appreciation of classic cars.

Aaron had a witty sense of humor and was loved by all. He easily made friends with anyone he crossed paths with.

On June 30, 1973, he married his childhood sweetheart and best friend, Maria C. Scolaro, at St. Joachim Church in Beacon. Maria survives at home.

Aaron is also survived by his two daughters, Tracy Way and husband, Lawrence, and Heather Yerks, all of Beacon. His beautiful grandchildren, Ravyn & Slater Way and Valentino & Leonardo Sardanopoli, all of whom he adored. His loving sisters, Audrey Henderson & Dorothy Smith; a special niece, Lisa Strong; and many other nieces, nephews, and countless friends and acquaintances. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Max.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Dolores Mazzacone.

The family would like to thank all of those at Vassar Brothers Medical Center who helped care for Aaron over the last five weeks.

Calling hours will be held from 12 to 4 p.m., followed by a Firematic Service at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill.
