Obituary for Mary R. Murphy

Mary R. Murphy, 85, a resident of Wappingers Falls for 40 years and formerly of Lake Carmel and the Bronx, died on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at The Pines in Poughkeepsie.
Born in the Bronx on June 4, 1933, she was the daughter of William and Mary (McCourt) Oates
Mary was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. She enjoyed baking, cooking, reading and needlework. She loved crafts and most of all her family.
On November 21, 1953 at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Carmel, Mary married Edward F. Murphy, Sr. who predeceased her on April 1, 2013. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Terri and Robert Tompkins of Holmes, Edward and Sandra Murphy of Wappingers Falls, Monica and Robert Cope of Livonia, Stephen and Lynn Murphy of Poughquag, Michael and Toni Murphy of Rhinebeck; her grandchildren, Sean (Krista) Tompkins, Maura Tompkins, Jennifer (Chris) DeVelasco, David (Jessica) Murphy, Ashley Murphy, Ryan and Patrick Cope, Billy (Jennifer) Murphy and Heather Murphy, Sarah, Michael and Evan Murphy; her great-grandchildren, Trinity, Gabriel and Maeve Tompkins and Charles DeVelasco; her sisters, Frances Hamann of Danbury, CT and Ann Doyle of Patterson; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her infant son in 1966.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
