Obituary for Thomas Miller Short

Thomas Miller Short
Thomas M. (Tom) Short, a lifelong local area resident, died peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Friday, October 5, 2018.
Born at the same location on November 28, 1964, he was the son of Margery Miller Short and Austin E. Short, both surviving.
Tom graduated from John Jay High School, SUNY Delhi, Widener University, and Manhattanville College. He was an elementary school teacher in the Minisink Valley School District for 20 years. Tom loved his profession and was the recipient of many awards. Prior to teaching, he worked at Aristocrat Tours and IBM . Most of all Tom enjoyed the Jersey Shore and his vacation home just off Long Beach Island where he would spend all of his free time with his boats and jet skis, fishing, crabbing, clamming and exploring with friends and family.
Along with his parents, Tom is survived by Austin’s wife Linda, his brother Jeff and his wife Lorrie, and their children Austin, Madison, and Carsen; his brother Andy; his brother Dan and His wife Jeanne, and their children Heather, Samantha and Zach.
The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU, the Cardiac Unit, the Supportive Care Medicine and Hospice for their exceptional care during Tom’s illness.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial Donations may be made in Tom’s honor to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Please visit Tom’s book of memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
