Obituary for Dorothea Mead

Dorothea D. Mead, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28th surrounded by her loving family.

Dot was born on December 13, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, NY and was the daughter of Edward Radcliffe and Kathleen (Phillips) DeLamater. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and soon after worked as a secretary for Dutton Lumber of Poughkeepsie. She married Clinton E. Mead on July 24, 1953 and moved to Hopewell Junction where she resided for 63 years. She enjoyed taking classes at the local libraries, schools, and YWCA. She was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church and belonged to Movers On, Antiques Study Group, and East Fishkill Historical Society.

She liked going to the city and seeing Broadway plays or taking road trips with the Valley Voyagers and the IBM Retirees. She shared her love of travel with her children and grandchildren and took many trips throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe.

Recently she was a resident at The Landing of Poughkeepsie and would like us to thank all of the staff for their care and assistance, and the residents for their friendship.

Dot is survived by her daughters, Mary and her husband, Peter, Kathy and her husband, Bill; her grandchildren Greg and his wife Ashlee, Laura, David, and Matthew, and her great grandson Elliott. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Barbara DeLamater , and three nieces and several great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Clinton, sister, Lt. Col. Elizabeth DeLamater and her brother Edward R. DeLamater.

Services will be held at the Hopewell Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the East Fishkill Community Library, 348 Route 376, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. Please visit Dorothea’s Book of Memories at
