Obituary for James Howard Wood

EAST FISHKILL - James Howard Wood, 92, a lifelong area resident, died on August 1, 2018 at the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Danbury, CT. Jim was a devoted family man, loving father and grandfather.

Born in Beacon on February 24, 1926, he was the son of the late Clarence and Florence (Piper) Wood. Jim proudly served our country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II as part of the Occupational Forces in Japan. He was employed as an Engineering Technician at Texaco Inc. in Glenham for 38 years until his retirement in 1986.

Jim was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hopewell Junction where he served on the Vestry for many years. He was also a life member of the East Fishkill Fire District, serving as Fire Commissioner and Chief. Jim enjoyed radio control airplanes and was a member of the Mid-Hudson Radio Control Society.

On November 11, 1951 in Wappingers Falls, Jim married the love of his life Dorothy Wood who predeceased him on March 23, 2010. Jim is survived by his daughter, Diane L. Kessler of Hopewell Junction; his son, James H. Wood Jr. and his wife Lori of Trumbull, CT; and his grandchildren, Gabriella J. Wood of Trumbull, CT, Daniel T. Kessler of Brooklyn, and Jeffery C. Planck and his wife Dottie of Boonsboro, MD. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter Doreen Planck; and sisters, Ruth Scofield and Doris Wright.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 12:30-1:30pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be at 1:30pm followed by interment with military honors in the Church of the Resurrection Cemetery.
