Obituary for Roy W. Schweitzer

Roy W. Schweitzer
BEEKMAN – Roy W. Schweitzer, 77, of Poughquag and formerly of Queens, died following a long illness on July 22, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in the Bronx on June 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Daniel and Ida (Summer) Schweitzer. Roy had worked for 26 years as a milkman for Dairylea. He then owned and operated several family businesses including JonRoy Masonary Contractors, RCCS Development, and OFB Enterprises.

On September 22, 1962 in the Bronx, Roy married the love of his life, Carol Ann Collier, who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Roy Schweitzer and his wife Helen, and Marie Schweitzer and her companion Flavius Rotar; his grandsons, Peter and Daniel Schweitzer; his brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Betty Schweitzer; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Tony Ilardi; and many nieces and nephews.

Roy was a proud life long New York Yankee fan. He built his own home in 1970 where he lived and loved life to the fullest. He could be seen hapily working around the property on his backhoe he named Betsy and by the pond feeding his koi fish he called "the kids". He had a great sense of humor and the best laugh to go with it. He always went out of his way to help anyone he could. He was the real deal - strong, gentle, funny, serious, industrious, generous, honest. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:15am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or MDS Foundation. Please visit Roy’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
