HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Ashima Chakravarti, 73, an area resident since 1981, died on July 4, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a brief illness. She previously lived in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Born in India on April 23, 1945, Ashima was the daughter of the late Promod and Sarojava Bhattacharyya. She was employed as a Senior Engineer for IBM in East Fishkill until her retirement.

Ashima married Satya Chakravarti in India in 1964. Her husband of 54 years survives at home. Other survivors include her daughters, Susmita Burnett and her husband Steven of Poughkeepsie and Sujata Chakravarti of Manhattan; her sister, Anima Bhattacharyya and her husband Mohan Lal of Ridgewood, NJ; three other sisters in India; her beloved grand dogs, Lykos, Peanut, and Tinky; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Ashima reveled in the simplicities of the natural world, especially gardening and bird watching. More than anything, she enjoyed her grand dogs.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Cremation will be private for immediate family.
