Obituary for Manuel A. Amorim

HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Manuel A. Amorim, 62, an area resident since 2003 and formerly of Ossining, died on May 30, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Portugal on December 9, 1955, he was the son of Jose and Lucinda (Oliveira) Amorim. Manuel had worked as a truck driver with Roger & Sons in LaGrangeville. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville. He was also a founding member and past president of the Hudson Valley Portuguese American Cultural Center where he enjoyed playing cards and attending picnics. He was a loving husband, and with his wife, created a wonderful family of children and grandchildren.

On December 20, 1975 in Portugal, Manuel married the love of his life, Gloria (Martins). They came to the United States permanently in 1990 to raise their family, after traveling back and forth for many years. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children and their spouses, Carla and Joe Renha of Ossining, Hilario and Guida Amorim of Poughquag, Zeca and Sofia Amorim of Fishkill, Elsa and Brian Apollonio of Poughquag, and Tina Amorim of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Carlie, Daniella, Daniel, Diana, Andrea, Mason, Michael and Brianna; his sister and brother-in-law, Maria Gorete Amorim and Avelino Ferreira of Portugal; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by entombment in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
