Obituary for Janet Ruth Matteo

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Janet Ruth Matteo, 84, a lifelong area resident, died on March 9, 2018 at MidHudson Regional Hospital.

Born in Beacon on April 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Geraldine (Cargill) Mosher. She retired from the State of New York after working for the Department of Transportation and then at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Hospital.

On February 10, 1954 in Maryland, Janet married the love of her live, John F. Matteo. Her husband of 64 years survives at home. She is also survived by her daughter, Gail Tassarotti and her husband Anthony of Albany; her son, Daniel Matteo of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Peter and Joseph Tassarotti; her siblings, Bill Mosher and Lorraine Clausen; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Raymond Mosher.

Janet was a life member of the Fishkill Methodist Church. Along with her husband, she was an avid square dancer and they traveled often to clubs in the United States and Europe. Janet liked to hike and take pictures. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and often donated her pieces to charitable organizations including the American Heart Society and Children Around the World.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Man Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
