Obituary for Robert A. Adler

FISHKILL – Robert A. Adler, 69, an area resident since 1978, died on January 3, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He previously lived in Manhattan.

Born on August 22, 1948 in New York City, Bob was the son of the late Allen and Alice (Rodetis) Adler. He proudly served in the US Air Force. Bob retired as Customer Engineer from IBM in White Plains in 2006 after almost 40 years of service.

On January 8, 1978 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Ossining, Bob married Catherine Purdy Adler who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughters and their spouses, Kristin and Seth Stanton of Albany and Jessica and Chris Decker of Shohola, PA; his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pop Pop, Reagan Decker, Kaitlyn Stanton, Landon Decker, and Emily Stanton; his siblings and their spouses, Rick and Phyllis Adler, Ginny and John Greene, and Geoff and Carey Adler; his stepmother, Joan Adler; and many nieces and nephews.

While his children were growing up, Bob enjoyed being a Fishkill Little League Coach, youth group adviser, and a Girl Scout Leader. He was also a BSA Eagle Scout, BSA Leader, and PeeWee Football Coach. During his retirement, he volunteered at the Trinity Episcopal Church, especially the food pantry.

An avid NY Jets fan, Bob also liked camping at Rudd Pond with his family and doing Soduku puzzles. More than anything, he loved his family and cherished the time he had with them, especially his grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at a funeral service to be held on Sunday January 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 Main Street, Fishkill.

Donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Trinity Episcopal Church or Sparrow’s Nest. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. Please visit Bob’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
