Obituary for Michael Francis McCauley

Michael Francis  McCauley
Michael Francis McCauley (Mike), 86, a long-time resident of Hopewell Junction, NY died on December 18, 2017 in Montrose, NY after a long illness.

Mike was born on November 4, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, to Michael and Annie (Ward) McCauley. Mike and his family lived in Brooklyn and he was an Ironworker in Local
361 Brooklyn, NY until his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the Korean War, Mike served the citizens of New York State for 30 years as a State Trooper. He spent many years of his long career at the State Police’s Fishkill Barracks. He retired as the Senior Investigator with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Hawthorne in 1987.

Mike married Teresa “Terry” Clark in September 1957, and they moved to Hopewell Junction in 1960. He was an active parishioner in the St. Columba Church for more than 55 years, and served as usher there for many years. Mike was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight for the St. Mary’s Council in Fishkill. Additionally, he was an active member of the Association of Former New York State Troopers. During his sons’ participation in Boy Scouts, Mike was very active as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America serving as both a Cub Scout Pack Leader and Scoutmaster of Troop 138.

Mike was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Terry of 60 years. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, and enjoyed traveling with her throughout the United States. He
was a loving grandfather to all his grandchildren, who called him “Poppa.” He was a man of great energy, and great skills particularly in woodworking, household
construction and automotive repair. Mike enjoyed helping all of his children and grandchildren with any and all varied household needs and he was always very devoted to his family.

Michael McCauley is survived by his loving wife, Teresa (Clark) McCauley of Hopewell Junction. He is also survived by his sons, Richard (Denise) McCauley of Wappingers Falls, Michael (Jan) McCauley of Richland, MI, Robert (Beverly) McCauley of Bettendorf, IA, his daughter, Sharon (James) O’Neill of Poughquag and his
grandchildren: Justin Antenucci of Daytona Beach, FL, Brendan McCauley of Princeton, NJ, Lance McCauley of Santa Ana, CA, Jenevieve McCauley of Wappingers Falls, James, Myles and Caroline McCauley of Bettendorf, IA, and Jimmy O’Neill of Poughquag. In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brothers,
Dennis McCauley and George McCauley.

Friends and neighbors may call on the family on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Mr. McCauley on Friday, December 22, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction. Burial will immediately follow at St. Denis Cemetery in Hopewell Junction.
