Obituary for Perry Goumas

Perry  Goumas
Perry Goumas, a local area resident for 20 years and formerly of Long Island, died peacefully at his home in Fishkill on Sunday, September 24, 2017. He was 87.
Son of the late Peter and Aspasia (Olympiadis) Goumas, he was born in Manhattan on January 1, 1930. At a young age, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the European Theater as a Military Policeman. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1947, and continued as a reservist up until the Korean Conflict.
In 1955, Perry began a long career working for Nassau County. For many years he served as an Officer for the County Police Department and later went on to work for the Public Works Department. He retired in 1988 as Supervisor of Water & Pollution Control.
On September 18, 1960, he married Georgia Starogiannis at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Hempstead. Mrs. Goumas survives at home in Fishkill.
Perry is also survived by his son, Peter Goumas; his daughter, Kelly Vasilakos & her husband Gus; his grandchildren, Georgia & Kassandra Vasilakos and Michael Goumas; his sister, Harriet Georgiopoulos & her husband Dino; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Jennie Paras, as well as his daughter-in-law, Barbara Goumas.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 29 at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, with Fr. Joseph Collins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, where the U.S. Army will conduct Military Honors.
