Obituary for Brian Alfred Harman

Brian Alfred Harman
Brian Alfred Harman, 62, an area resident for 21 years and formerly of Carmel, died suddenly on September 22, 2017 at Putnam Hospital Center following a short illness.

Born in Queens Village on January 20, 1955, he was the son of Joan Shannon Harman and the late Alfred Harman. Brian was a member of the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers, Local #30 working as a licensed electrician, HVAC mechanic and Union Instructor for 34 years. He then was the owner and operator of Harman Construction in Hopewell Junction.

Brian was a very generous and kind man. He was passionate about skiing, loved the game of golf, was an avid reader, loved to cook and bake Christmas cookies, enjoyed entertaining and having a house full of laughter, but more than anything he adored being “Poppy” to his grandchildren and making mischief with them.
Brian was a member of the National Ski Patrol, serving as a Senior Patroller for 28 years. He served as a Trainer for Outdoor Emergency Care, and as a Ski and Toboggan Instructor. For 22 seasons, Brian coached the Kent Knights Football Team to many undefeated seasons. He also volunteered as a Little League Baseball Coach in the Town of Carmel for many years and as a Cub Scout Leader for Troop 132. Brian was a giver, teacher and mentor to many people!

Brian is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen (Wolfe); his mother, Joan Harman of Mahopac; his children and their spouses, Aaron and Alona Harman of Mahopac, and Seth and Jill Harman of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Mackenzie 10, Benjamin 8, Victoria 7 and Elizabeth 5; his ever faithful dog, Gracie; his siblings, Katherine and (John) DeSciorio, James Harman, Keith and (Linda) Harman, Dennis Harman, Maureen and (Thomas) Walker, and Regina Harman; his Brother in law Timothy Wolfe and sisters-in-law, , Nancy and (Scott) Stogel, Eileen and (Edward) O’Connell; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY 12524.
