The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of David Plaza can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

A True Gentleman

I grew up a few doors down from the Plazas, and when I was a teen I had a huge crush on Dave. Didn't we all? I would be so excited to see him drive by my house and give a wave. If I was lucky, I would get the opportunity to chat with him in person if I was taking my dog for a walk past his house. One year I gathered up the courage to invite him to a party—I believe it was my sweet 16. I remember looking up his home number in the phone book and shaking as I dialed the number. Oh the butterflies!  I left a message and tried not to get my hopes up. He was a few years older than me after all. Why should he care about the kid down the road? But he did return my call. He very politely let me know he wouldn’t be able to make it to my party, but he also took the time to talk with me. I got off the phone feeling like a million bucks—grinning from ear to ear. If he didn’t return my call I may have felt foolish for inviting him and avoided him out of embarrassment, but instead I continued to look forward to his friendly wave and chats every time we crossed paths in the neighborhood for years to come. My impressionable teenage heart will forever be grateful for his kindness.

My sincere condolences go out to the Plaza family and all of his friends and loved ones. He will be missed.
