Obituary for Nancy Lee Tierney

Fishkill, NY – Nancy Lee Tierney of Fishkill, NY passed away on August 17th after a short illness with her daughter at her side. Born July 15, 1924 in Fishkill, she was the daughter of John and Bertha Baxter MacCallin. Nancy was a graduate of Beacon High School and Albany Business College before enlisting in the WAVES August 1944. She completed recruit (basic) training at Hunter College and assigned to Staff Headquarters 3rd Naval District New York and later the Brooklyn Naval Yard. After an honorable discharged from the U.S. Navy Women’s Reserve in May 1946, she returned home to work for the New York Telephone Company. On June 18, 1947 she married Joseph E. Tierney.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1989, her parents and her cousins - best friends Joan Baxter and Janet Brumm Weber.

Nancy is survived by her children, a son Joseph Michael Tierney and his wife Linda of Oak Ridge, NC, a daughter Joan Tierney of Fishkill, NY and three granddaughters, Jill Tierney of Greensboro, NC, Marcie Tierney of Jupiter, FL and Donna Tierney of Knightdale, NC.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 21st at St. Mary’s Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Burial with military honors will be private and at the convenience of the family at Fishkill Rural Cemetery where less than a mile from her cradle to grave, is the view of the northern mountains of the Hudson Highlands.
