Obituary for Vera M. DeSha

STORMVILLE – Vera M. DeSha, 84, an area resident for 30 years, died on May 10, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Page, ND on May 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Emma (Krack) Thum. On March 22, 1955 in California, Vera married Joseph DeSha who predeceased her in 1995.

Vera had been employed by Guideposts in Carmel for over 20 years until her retirement. Her passion was being called the Pastor’s wife of the Mission Church in Holmes from 1973 until the late 1980’s. It was there that she supported her husband’s work, was instrumental in his construction of the new church, and loved teaching Sunday school to the children.

Vera enjoyed animals, and worked for the San Diego Zoo when she was younger. She also liked gardening. Most of all, she loved her family and will be missed greatly by them all.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joel and Patty DeSha of Kentucky, Myra and Brad Wilder of Stormville, Michael and Carol DeSha of Poughquag, and Kevin and Tammy DeSha of Highland; her grandchildren, Caleb, Alysianne, Bailey, Ian, Jeffrey, Carla, Jennifer, Celeste, Andrew, Dylan, Amber, Kevin, Lauren, Tess, Jordan, and Tyler; her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Violet Thum, Richard Thum, Henry Thum, and Alfred Thum; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Keith DeSha on August 18, 2010 and her sisters, Barbara and Alice.

Calling hours will from 10-11 am on Thursday at the Mission Church, 4101 Route 52, Holmes followed by the funeral service at 11 am. Burial will be at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel.
