Obituary for
Rev. Richard E. Johnson
WAPPINGERS FALLS – Rev. Richard E. Johnson, 83, an area resident since 1994, died peacefully on April 18, 2016 at the Lutheran Care Center. He previously lived in Yonkers.
Born in Joplin, MO on August 7, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Bernice (Edwards) Johnson. On June 15, 1957 in Denver, CO, he married the love of his life, Donna Kay (Williams Johnson), who predeceased him on October 16, 2008 after 51 years of marriage.
From 1966-1994, Rev. Johnson was the pastor at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Yonkers. In 1994, he became the pastor at St. Timothy’s Church in Hyde Park until his retirement in 2004.
Rev. Johnson was a lifelong NY Yankees fan, and his family will always remember watching games together and hearing him talk about the team’s legendary players.
He is survived by his children, Deborah K. Johnson of Torrance, CA, Anna L. Johnson of Altamonte Springs, FL, and Ronald Johnson and his wife Helena of Fishkill; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Johnson of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren, John Marzano, David Marzano, Richard Johnson, Michael Johnson, Kathryn Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Jr., and Brian Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Bethany, Richard, Molly, Lucy, and Jackson. He was also predeceased by his son, Richard Johnson in 2013.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7 – 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1400 Route 52, Fishkill.
